The holidays are often filled with heart warming joy and cheer, but every now and then, they can feel a little overwhelming. We understand. So to help you feel your best throughout this holiday season, we compiled a list of our seven favorite self care/de-stress tips. Enjoy!
01 Take Time to Relax
We know, “easier said than done,” right? But carving out intentional time to relax is crucial. We can only pour out so much before we need to be filled up! Snuggle in your favorite blanket while watching a holiday movie, spend fifteen minutes each morning enjoying your coffee/tea free from distraction, or take a short walk in the fresh air. These moments will help fuel the rest of your day.
02 Diffuse Your Favorite Essentials Oils
Do you love the calming aroma of essential oils? Consider diffusing a few drops of peppermint to add an invigorating vibe to your home. Another one of our favorite holidays blends is: Cinnamon, Orange, and Black Spruce!
03 Spend Time with People Who Fill You Up
Do you have a friend (or friends) who fill your soul? Who encourage your heart and make you a better person? Plan time to spend with her/him/them. During this season of giving, we can often feel depleted. That is why creating space to enjoy the company of true friends can be one of the best gifts!
04 Make Time for Restorative Exercise
If you are feeling a little less than your best, make time for restorative exercise. It does not necessarily need to be high intensity, but rather simply a time to move your body and release your daily tension. Take fifteen minutes each day to practice yoga, go for a slow bike ride, visit your local climbing gym, or take your dog on walk to the park. Choose an activity that will get you moving while also filling your heart with joy!
05 Enjoy a Soothing Bath
One of the best evening rituals is taking a calming bath before bed. Fill your tub with warm water, add a few drops of lavender oil and epsom salt, and soak by candlelight. You can read your favorite book and relax your eyes from your phone or computer screen for a little while. You’ll be amazed by how calm you feel as you drift off to sleep.
06 Write Your Thoughts
Are thoughts flooding your mind? Consider taking a moment to journal each day. Writing your thoughts down on paper can be so helpful in understanding your ideas and feelings. It will clear and calm your mind allowing you to feel fully aware for the coming day!
07 Get Outside
This last tip is one of our favorites - spend time outside! Regularly connecting with nature is oh so restorative. And the best part? You do not need to climb a mountain in order to receive the benefits of being in nature (though if you want to, go for it)! Take a slow walk in your local park, visit a nearby hiking trail and enjoy the winter scenery, go ice skating with your best friend, or play in the snow with your kids. Discover the benefits of fresh air and a little fun this holiday season!
